It’s Fun to be in INNSBRUCK

It’s Fun to be in INNSBRUCK

This year we felt the Christmas spirit a lot, going around many markets selling local delicacies and handicrafts, mulled wine, which warmed us from the bitter cold, Christmas songs in the background … where we could live all this if not in Innsbruck ?!

#Day1

Christkindlmarkt Maria-Theresien Strasse: the main road, the most elegant and famous street of Innsbruck, is prepared and beautifully decorated for this time of year.

Christkindlmarkt Altstadt is the main village in the historic center of the city. The square is surrounded by elegant and beautiful medieval buildings of the old town, illuminated by a large Christmas tree and a sky lights covering scenically all the stalls. The protagonist of the square, however, remains the famous Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl) covered with nearly 3,000 gilded copper flake tiles of late Gothic period. It is easy to be caught by the enthusiasm here, and we are too weak to resist temptation, especially when it comes to food: we taste everything we’ve been offered, from traditional foods, pancakes with blueberries, Spatzln, hot drinks and mulled wine. There are stalls selling delicacies not only in this square, but in every corner of our city … “ruin”!

Christkindlmarkt am Marktplatz: we move towards the Inn River, which takes its name from the city, not far from the historic center. We arrive to the market which is a popular choice by families and it is also suitable for children with many fun attractions, including a tender pony rides and puppet theater. For the bigger ones however there are still several stalls selling craft items, candles, wooden toys and Christmas decorations, and of course, the delicious local delicacies. Dominating this market a sparkling Christmas tree in Swarovski crystal.

Stop for a quick “snack” before going to have some rest: Ludwing is a fast food very nice, young, friendly … and most importantly, our salvation from the bitter cold of the evening.

Good morning sprint for us! The day starts in movement: already for some time we had a desire to skate on the ice, but have never had the opportunity, so we decided not to let it go and despite the hour, we unleashed. The Alps in the background and a beautiful sun accompany us throughout the day, and we continue our tour of discovery of the Christmas markets.

Walking before taking the funicular Hungerburgbahm that leads to the small but inviting Christmas market Panorama Christkindlmarkt Hungerburg. Here there are not that many stands but it is worth making a stop to enjoy the view over the city.

It rains in Innsbruck so we start to prepare to the trip back home, and as if there’s more the Christmas spirit to live these two days, we make a stop in Bolzano. A quick lap, just long enough to see some other stands and eat at a traditional restaurant that offers rich and tasty dishes: Vögele (read the article at the link: http://goo.gl/UWDqxa )
